Marvin Ridge Concert Band
The concert band is the core of the Marvin Ridge High School
band program. The bands are open to students in grades 9-12.
Students in Concert Band should expect a few after school
rehearsals in the winter and spring to prepare for concert
festivals and supplementary performances locally. The Concert
Band provides an opportunity to perform challenging, innovative
music and performance opportunities for developing band
members that are highly motivated musicians, as well as
advanced musicians. The band performs five–six concerts per
year, in addition to the District MPA Festival.
The Concert Band consistently earns Superior (highest) ratings
at the District MPA Festival. The Concert Band typically performs
at a level equivalent to many college second bands, taking into
account both the challenging musical repertoire and excellence
of the presentation. Some Concert Band members also study with
private instructors. Concert Band members also earn
recognition in solo competitions and are selected by audition for
All District Band and All-State Honors band as well. Students
who fail to meet their obligations (playing as well as attendance)
in the band will lose the opportunity to perform with the band at
a later date. They will be given individual assignments and
instruction to be worked on during and outside of the class to
earn their grade. Their grade will be determined by the
performance of their assignments.
